Columns with pre-packed sorbents for sample pre-treatment by solid phase extraction. GL Sciences InertSep SPE column sorbents come in two types of sorbents: polymer-based sorbents which have the widest pH compatibility and silica-based sorbents which are more cost-effective and have higher physical strength. Columns are available in various sizes and formats including cartridges, luer-type devices and 96-well plates for compatibility with every SPE method (gravity, vacuum, positive-pressure, to centrifugal systems). InertSep Trial Kit-1 is 10 sets of reversed phase RP-1 (250 mg/6 mL), PLS-2 (265 mg/6 mL), and PLS-3 (200 mg/6 mL). It is useful for screening organic compounds and regulated pollutants in environmental water in Japan. It is also useful for extracting antimicrobial agents that remain in meat and organs because it is highly permeable to li...
InertSep Trial Kit-2 is a set of reversed phase Pharma, RP-C18, and MPC (60 mg/3 mL each). It is a convenient combination for pretreatment of medical screening using LC/MS and GC/MS. It is optimum for studying extraction procedures in simultaneous analysis of target compounds and their metabolites.
InertSep Trial Kit-3 is a set of four ion-exchange systems, InertSep MA 1, MA-2, MC-1, and MC-2 (100 mg/3 mL each). This is a convenient combination for screening ionic compounds. Two types of cationic and anionic products with different ionic strengths are prepared. Since the InertSep MC and MA series are methacrylate-based and have extr...
InertSep Trial Kit-5 consists of 10 sets of InertSep GC (500 mg/6 mL), InertSep GC/NH2 (500/500 mg/6 mL) and InertSep GC/SAX/PSA (500/500/500 mg/20 mL) as dye removal clean-up kits for the pretreatment of pesticide residue analysis of crops.
InertSep AL-N/C18/SAX/PSA is a four-layer-type solid phase extraction cartridge, from the top layer it packed with AL-N (100 mg), C18 (200 mg), and SAX (100 mg) and PSA (100 mg). The cartridge is small-packed volume and small reservoir size, suitable for rapid analysis. The main application field is simultaneous screening analysis of pest...
InertSep MA-1 is a methacrylate polymer based sorbent modified with strong anion exchange functional groups. The primary advantages of this sorbent are high hydrophilicity and attainability of easy and effective elution of isolates.
InertSep SPE cartridges come in two major types of base gels - Polymer-based sorbents and Silica-based sorbents. Specialty phases are also available.
Polymer-based Sorbents
The advantages of polymer-based sorbent are their availability in a wide pH range and the absence of secondary interaction which can occur with silica-based sorbents.
Silica-based Sorbents
Silica-based sorbent materials are more cost-effective and have higher physical strength compared with polymer-based sorbent materials. Silica offers a wide variety of separation mechanisms using a combination of primary functional group interaction with secondary interactions due to the nature of silica.

Retentive Capacity of a Sorbent Compared to Sorbent Mass
Bed volume is the quantity of the solvent necessary to replace the air trapped in the solid phase. Void volume is equivalent to the bed volume.
How to Select a Sorbent
One of the most important elements to achieve successful solid phase extraction is selection of a sorbent which should be suitable for both the sample matrix and the target analyte. The sorbent should be carefully selected, taking into account the chemical properties of the target analyte, such as its solvent solubility and the physical nature of the sample matrix. In addition, it is important to develop conditions that are optimal for retaining the target analyte, while removing the sample matrix, then selecting an elution solvent for maximum recovery of the target analyte.
Recommendation for Selecting an Ion Exchange Sorbent
In order to effectively utilize the solid phase extraction method, it is important to choose sorbent mass and size appropriate to loading amount of the matrix and the target analyte. Generally, the total retentive capacity of cartridge type (including matrix) is said to up to 5 % of the sorbent mass.
